UPDATE: Cecil's cubs are safe as Bubye Valley is not adjacent to Hwange. We apologize for the error as we were caught off guard alongside with many groups (this was not the first time as CNN misreported on Jericho the lion back in august). But the cull of 200 innocent lions will take place if nothing is done.
managment at Zim's LARGEST LION SANCTUARY is planning to kill 200 innocent lionsDear General Manager Blondie Leathem of Zimbabwe's Bubye Valley Conservancy,
We are very disappointed in your decision to cull 200 lions at Bubye Valley Conservancy, and blaming the "Cecil Effect" named after the beautiful lion, Cecil, that was lured out of Hwange National park into a neighbouring park to be brutally murdered by Walter Palmer. We believe the role of a conservancy is to protect and conserve endangered species not kill them. There are only 20,000 lions left in this world and to kill 200 lions is to blot out 1% of the lions left on this world. Imagine if 1% of the world is killed, that's a lot of people. We, the global community, are calling out on more humane ways to address the so called overpopulation your park is experiencing. Killing should never be an option and excess lions should be sent to ethical conservancy and sanctuaries in areas where there are no lions such that they can repopulate. We will continue to speak out of the voiceless until you and your team calls off the cull. Expect us. Sincerely, Animal Lovers from all over the world |
